Our Apprentices and Interns get hands-on ministry experience, while spending time in a mentoring relationship with one of our pastors. If you already sense a call to vocational ministry, or you’re presently considering it, we believe the best place to begin training is in the context of the local church.

"The entire education of the younger generation of theologians belongs today in church cloister-like schools, in which pure doctrine, the Sermon on the Mount and worship are taken seriously."

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Apprenticeships: Apprentices are paired with a pastor in their area of ministry: preaching & leadership, worship, students & families, community, missions, or administration. You will invest 5 - 10 hrs. a week serving at the church. Apprentices may receive assistance with housing and a monthly stipend.

There are three main parts to each apprenticeship: 1) ministry experience, 2) life together, and 3) theological formation. These positions are reserved for those who believe they are called to full-time ministry (local church pastor, church planting, or missions) and who make application through the Bonhoeffer Haus. Apprenctices serve for 1 - 3 years.

Internships: Interns serve 5 - 10 hours a week in their area of interest: media, worship, administration, missions, community, children, and/or students. Interns are also exposed to a variety of other ministry areas to broaden their perspective, while working closely with our pastors and staff in these areas to gain valuable experience, discipleship, and coaching. Interns typically serve 1 - 2 years. Some interns may receive help with travel and living expenses.

Summer Internships: Summer Interns serve for 10 weeks in a variety of church-wide ministry activities as well as community engagement. The purpose of this internship is to train emerging leaders for the church and world through mentoring, study, and practical ministry. The internship would include:

  • Summer Mission Trips
  • CSBC Kid's Camp (June)
  • Serve Roanoke Mission Week (July)
  • Other local mission efforts
  • Practice life together with other believers
  • Housing could be provided based on need. CSBC would organize meals and activities throughout the summer, included but not limited to: mid-summer retreat, weekly outdoor adventures (hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, etc.). We ask each intern to raise financial support for living expenses and recreational activities throughout the summer (approx. $600).
